I have a chair that I got in March off of amazon. An hour ago the baseplate bent and now the pole that it sits on is just wobbling around. Cannot sit on it unless it is directly up. I found this out when the whole thing tilted back, slamming my head into a shelf and throwing me out of the chair. So I go to Amazon to at least leave a shitty review, maybe see if I can contact them for a replacement part. Product is de-listed and no contact information at all. So I contact Amazon who just instantly starts a refund process I didn’t ask for, smugly telling me I’m not eligible when I knew that. First rep sent me to a ‘special team to help’. That ‘special team’ was the front desk for Amazon.com instead of the Canadian one. She just did the exact same thing, another refund I never asked for and putting me on hold and refusing to listen to me. Asked to speak to a Supervisor who then started to say the same shit before I cut him off and said I just wanted the fucking contact information for the fucking manufacturer. He emails over a page for the manufacturer that is their warranty/refunds page.

Ukraine began its involvement in the Iraq War on 5 June 2003, shortly after the 2003 invasion of Iraq. As part of the Multi-National Force – Iraq, they engaged in combat with Iraqi insurgents. On 9 December 2008, Ukraine formally withdrew its last forces from Iraq, ending its participation in the Iraq War. Prior to the Russo-Ukrainian War, Ukraine’s involvement in the Iraq War was the largest military operation ever performed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Over 6,000 Ukrainians performed military service in Iraq and Kuwait during the war, including a permanent presence of 1,600, with more than 40 Ukrainians wounded and 18 killed in action.

Hey folks. My understanding of the self-hosting world is that Proxmox is kinda the king of the roost, and deservedly so. I use it myself both for personal and work projects, and love what it provides. I’ve also used TrueNAS Core/SCALE, and of course just traditional Linux desktop or server distros of various sorts for projects, but out of the corner of my eye has always been sitting XCP-NG. It seems like it could be a real contender in the space.

So I have seen this for awhile and had not mentioned something before partially because its not a game stopper and so many things are going on with piefed dev I hated to bother. I kinda expected other people would be seeing it and it would likely get attention and maybe it has but I just have not seen it. Anyway I attached a screenshot showing how the dropdown menus get obscured by the site and its not just obscured because the site under the dropdown seems to have interaction priority. The funny thing is when I click on images and get the larger version like sometimes something like this happens and at other times the pop up image will correctly be in front of everything. Im not sure if its the type of image or what but the effect does not always happen with pop up image. It basically always happens with the drop downs though. I changed to default theme and some other themes and this issue consistantly happens.

Google offers more details on their upcoming smart glasses and demos features at Android XR eventGoogle recently shared new information about their upcoming Android XR devices and software features at an event dedicated to Android XR.Some information from the event that I found particularly interesting:* in 2026 Google will release a pair of smart glasses without a display as well as a pair with a monocular display as their answer to the different Ray-ban Meta variants currently out * it sounds like both first-party and third-party app support will be much stronger than for Meta as the SDK is out and devkits are already being offered to third-party devs* Google is confident they will be able to offer these with a wider prescription range than Meta's Display glasses* in 2027 they will release a model with two displays* Google plans to make WearOS watches able to work to enhance the experience of using smart glasses* project Aurora done in collaboration with Xreal uses a tethered compute puck and will offer the full Android XR spatial computing environment but uses an optical passthrough similar to currently existing display glasses instead of video from cameras* Google demoed a new feature that lets users transform any content to 3D in real-time using Android XRMore info:https://9to5google.com/2025/12/08/android-xr-glasses-displays-2026/utm_medium=mastodonhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_ANVojMDHY@augmented_reality@lemmy.world#ar #vr #xr #androidxr #smartglasses #virtualreality

Digital Sewer Socialism: What we need is sewer socialism for the digital realm — and it can start at the municipal level. (jacobin.com)

Community iconc/technology@beehaw.org by
alyaza [they/she]@beehaw.org

The basic insight of sewer socialism is bringing people into your politics by improving their lives in obvious ways. “You win someone’s trust through an outcome” is how Mamdani puts it. The sewer socialists of Milwaukee made the case that municipal ownership of systems like sanitation, water, and power could deliver services more efficiently and more equitably than private ownership. They solved practical problems for their constituents while constructing working examples of a postcapitalist political economy in miniature.

“I am asking now, and stating this openly, for the U.S. to help me. Together with our European partners, we can ensure the security needed to hold elections. If that happens, Ukraine will be ready to conduct elections in the next 60 to 90 days,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

Right, so I just wanted to make the point that the alien films with Sigourney Weaver are kinda same flavour as the Riddick films with Vin Diesel, and that the Sigoureny movies are better. Prove me wrong! Or come up with something better than either :)

When magisk came it was great and doing everything it needed to do. Then the dev got work at google and having magisk on top of google measure to stop it became imposssible. U can have module that will likely nearly make it invisible but that wont work. The magsik dev as far as i know don’t intend for magisk to be this stealth solution that play proetct or pay or other measure couldnt detect. I dont use root extensively and with the passing of time i feel i might ditch it. I saw some emerging solution but nothing either for my modele or that i feel confortable using. Wich is a shame cause i have a neobank and if i cant use it my phone is useless. But simply for adaway im really to keep my phone root but dont wanna loose bunch of capability

Can't have nuanced discussions about certain topics on Reddit, even if its from a work of fiction. [Pluribus Spoilers within]

Yeah, I still use Reddit alongside the fediverse for certain community types and topics where the Fediverse lacks. I’m not one to usually share this type of thing, as it can come across as whiny - but this one to me is absurd.

A Mysterious Company Came to Town With a $165 Billion Idea (nytimes.com)

On roughly 1,400 acres of flat and vacant scrubland near the Mexican border, BorderPlex and its partner, Stack Infrastructure, a data center builder, wanted to build a collection of data centers that would cost $165 billion. The number seemed berserk. The entire U.S. Interstate Highway System cost less than half as much in inflation-adjusted dollars. Even the International Space Station, underwritten by more than a dozen countries, was a bargain by comparison. (It was $150 billion.)

Using PrusaSlicer, is there a way of getting a thicker (two layers, preferably) support base? See linked pic for what I mean.

I find that I spend too much time ensuring that I get every speck of support material off the print plate long after I’ve removed the actual print.
