Unfortunately we live in a democracy and until the misinformed voters on the street are convinced of the same, acting like it’s an emergency would lose the government elections. That is the harsh truth. The public at large must be convinced.

So lose the elections? Let the public choose between healthcare and suicide, and if they choose suicide at least you didn’t deceive them. Maybe the collapse of the economy will help reduce emissions too, increasing chances of survival for everyone else.

The pretense that the current political center is reasonable has done more to convince the public that climate change isn’t a big deal than any amount of right-wing propaganda. If even “the left” doesn’t seem to act like climate change is an existential threat, then surely it’s just political bluster.

While you’re right, you can’t go from the status quo to outside the.stsus quo in a single election cycle,.anyone that radiacal is ignored. You just have to look at The Greens in Australia, UK,NZ, Germany erc for proof of that, the tinest.bit radiacal, like more public tranpoet and medium density housing,.less fossil.fuels and don’t cut down so much forest… and… pariahaed.

The only way through politically was move left, and shift the Overton Window, to allow thw rise of the truly radical politcans. Alas that path would take 20 yrs.or so so let alone then implementing policies to undoe decadaes of humany stupidity eg banning cars..

The ability to enact solutions is long past. We’ve actually doubled.down and gone the other way, US with MAGA, UK with Brexit and Reform, Putin in Russia. Whike there are noonher.aolution it can be bettee eg Trump removing pollution guidelines just makes it worse for citizens with more toxic air to breath as we count down to the apocalypse

All we can do now is as Nathan Rees points out

https://www.nationalobserver.com/2024/06/14/opinion/science-civilization-collapse-environment-limits

Rees bluntly states, “the human enterprise is effectively subsuming the ecosphere” and “wide-spread societal collapse cannot be averted — collapse is not a problem to be solved, but rather the final stage of a cycle to be endured.”

Collpase is the solution.

As my friend puts it ‘a rapid uncontrolled simplification of the economy’

Nah, it’s easier and more profitable to just let our children die.

For as much as we’ve discovered about our universe, we are still too stupid to adequately plan for our species’ survival.
