I need to keep power usage in mind and don’t want to spend more than 500€ on hardware. Power is roughly 0.35ct/kwh in Germany

I use a 2016 laptop as my server which has an old Nvidia 740M. Albeit slow and old, it’s a chip I’d like to use. Unfortunately nothing I tried (Immich AI tagging, local AI etc) supports that. Is there something it could be useful for?

What is a modern cpu that you can run on full load 24/24 fanless and with least power draw? I’m looking to use it without any fans. Performance is not that much needed, only quiet and no big watts drawn :)

Hey all, I’m upgrading to 2 gb fiber internet, and I’m looking to swap my router for an opnsense build. I’m looking to build a matx PC using the Intel x540 t2. I know the 2x10gbe connections need more processing power compared to the recommended specs on opnsenses site. But I have no idea what cpu to get. I’m looking at the i5-6500T since it’s low power and I already have a compatible mobo laying around. Is that too old for this application? Full stack would be the fiber ONT 10gb port - > this opnsense build - > 8 port 2.5 gb switch with a 10gb uplink port. Will probably have less than 20 devices connected at once, with only a couple of them capable of using the full internet speed.

I'm looking to grab a Dell R640 and with the price of M.2 storage being so low I'm wondering if I can buy a m.2 to 2.5 u.2 conversion adapter to make use of some consumer grade NVMEs in my server. Here would work is an example of one but with mixed reviews.

I'm running Cisco Modeling labs, which uses Ubuntu and QEMU under the hood. CML allows you to place external connectors in a lab that bridge virtual and physical lab devices. These external connectors are Linux bridges running on the CML controller hypervisor.
