This isn’t just the US as well. This literally happened in my neighbourhood in Switzerland.

Old reclusive cow farmer guy has suicidal crisis. Calls the hotline saying he’s thinking of shooting himself. They call the cops. Cops burst in, see the gun, shoot him to death.
